Originating from ancient Egypt, this healthy and tasty flatbread is a staple bakery product that was historically known as gruel. Today, flatbread is combined with various different ingredients such as rosemary, thyme, onion, meat and tomatoes.
INGREDIENTS
4 Tbsp Oil
450g Flour
1 Red onion, chopped
1 Packet instant yeast
1 cup Water
100g Bacon, chopped
1 IMANA Chilli Beef & Veg Flavoured Soup
METHOD
Fry the onion and bacon in the oil until cooked and set aside.
Mix the flour, yeast, IMANA Chilli Beef & Veg Flavoured Soup powder and water together to form a soft dough.
Knead the dough for ±15 minutes before adding in the cooled onions and bacon mixture.
Place the dough in a warm place and allow to prove until doubled in size for ±30 minutes.
Sprinkle some flour onto a flat surface before rolling the proved dough out into an oval shape.
Cook the dough in a very hot frying pan with no oil. Place the dough into the pan for a minute or two, then turn over to cook the other side. This can also be cooked on a braai.
